Why Do We Play In Pre-k?

Why do they play all day? What about their ABC's and 123's? Aren't they supposed to be learning? Do these questions cross your mind? Well if they have, then let me tell you why. Children DO learn through play. They learn to share, create and problem solve. You see learning isn't just academics. It's the whole child. Social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and making friends are learned through play. How to make a tower stronger so it won't fall, make a building out of blocks, learned through play. Can I have a blue horse and pink dog? Creativity in art, story telling and dramatic play is learned by play. Wondering at the world around them- looking at bugs, playing in mud, all learning! All of these skills are 21st century skills they will use for the rest of their lives. So any time you watch your child, look really close. Now do you see the wheels turning? Ask who, what, how?  Sit down and play with them, learn through their eyes.
